Best practices on retaining and advancing women lawyers

Webinars

2013

Over 50% of the work force in companies and law firms is made up of women. However, reaching the decision making positions within the organizations is still exceptional and limited. Beretta Godoy brought together representative women in law from Canada, United States and Argentina to discuss how to retain and advance women lawyers; giving tips for work-life balance, discussing best practices for talent management and providing an overview of the Latin American scenario.

Beretta Godoy invited Lisa Vogt (Partner and Chief Diversity and Engagement Officer), Lynn Parsons (Partner) from McCarthy Tetrault, and Elena María Millerman (Partner) from White and Case in New York to analyze the advantages of building up a case, and the importance of the commitment from the top and the engagement of both genders to achieve the necessary cultural change.

Lisa Vogt, from McCarthy Tetrault’s Vancouver office, opened the session analyzing the business case for retaining and advancing women in law and the need of a cultural change in order to achieve it. Lynn Parsons, from Toronto’s office, continued untangling the dilemma of how to balance career with personal life, and the importance of setting priorities. Elena María Millerman, on her side, explained White & Case best practices for talent management and how this increases retention and the advancement of top talent. Finally, Susana Saenz from Beretta Godoy, reported on the present scenario of women in law in Latin America, and described Beretta Godoy´s experience on talent retention.
